The beginning of the week saw the religious leaders of Christian,Jewish and Islamic faith coming together to pray for our planet in Greenland. The much needed partcipation from RSE ie,Religion,Sciene and Environment came at a time where global Environmental concerns are overshadowing religious fervor and sheer scientific pursuits.
The backdrop to this phenomenon is the alarming observations and findings about natural discrepansies .
According to reliable sourses ,the polar ice caps are shrinking causing almost two thirds of the world’s polar bear population to vanish. Penguins ,who are at the top of the food chain , also act as indicators of the balance among environment, marine and terrestrial features, are facing extinction.Their numbers are alarmingly decreasing..It is also said that Myanmar’s wildlife will completely diminish if they continue to be hunted and sold in the chinese market which is notorious for its wildlife business. Most of the specimens on display come from Myanmar. The cutting down of Myanmar forests and the apathetic stand taken by the ruling body of that country is indirectly encouraging illegal logging of its teak.
However apart from the above cited reasons, the most primary reason for animal and bird extinction and other natural aberrations is Global warming. The issue will be taken up at G8 environment ministers meet at Berlin along with 20 other countries. This meet will bring out a comprehensive documentation of steps to be taken uniformly across the developed and developing countries. The document will talk about how developing countries could reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the help of the countries that are industrialized. This would mean transference of technology to the developing countries.
